Dour Festival 2023

Capleton

& David House Crew

JAM (Islington)

Born in Jamaica in 1967, Capleton first started making dancehall/reggae music as a DJ in Kingston at the age of 18. With hot sounding tunes and an unmistakable mix of rough vocals and lyrical dexterity, he was soon producing hit after hit, though it took around about a decade, until the beginning of the new millenium, for him to be truly recognised as the head of the dancehall movement. With passionate lyrics about the Rastafarian religion and the emancipation of the black race, Capleton has made himself as much a spiritual leader as a musical one. He first came to Dour in 2002 and is returning for a fourth time.
